History
Akaltye began in 1999 as one of the initiative programs through the CAT Rio Tinto Ltd partnership. Centre for Appropriate Technology Inc (CAT) hosted the first of a series of six annual Akaltye youth events. For these six years Akaltye was run as a national event only, without integration into the curriculum.
Over two hundred students from twenty one schools around Australia have participated in the event. The key contributors in developing and hosting these events were:
