Akaltye is a Central Australian Arrernte word meaning "opportunity to learn".

'Akaltye' is a strategy to engage students, teachers, communities and Industry to enhance learning and career outcomes for Indigenous students in the fields of science and technology.

Akaltye is a partnership initiative developed in 1999 through the CAT and Rio Tinto Ltd partnership.

CAT and Rio Tinto have devised and managed Akaltye Science and Technology Youth Event in specific locations in regional and remote

for several years as an extra-curricula activity supported by parents, communities and schools. Over recent years CAT-Rio Tinto has sought to expand the program into curriculum based activities within regional schools nationally.
